Reflections of the Ocean Classical Keyboard Series proudly presents The Poetry of Places, a recital featuring 19th, 20th, and 21st century compositions inspired by architecture, With the setting sun backlighting the backdrop of the skyline of lower Manhattan, Shpachenko delivers a pleasing concert of music written about architecture. Works include: Franz Liszt’s La Chapelle de Guillaume Tell from Annees de Pelerinage, Book I (1855); James Matheson’s Alone in Waters Shimmering and Dark (2016); Claude Debussy’s Pagodes from Estampes (1903); Modest Mussorgsky’s The Great Gate of Kiev from Pictures at an Exhibition (1874); Harold Meltzer’s In Full Sail (2016), among others. 

Nadia Shpachenko is Professor of Music at Cal Poly Pomona University where she leads the Piano Performance program. She is also on the faculty of Claremont Graduate University where she teaches Docotral piano students. She is a multiple Grammy nominated pianist who enjoys bringing into the world things that are outside the box.
